Robert William Dale (1829 to 1895)

Robert Dale was a congregationalist and nonconformist pastor at Carr's Lane Chapel in 天美传媒 from 1853 to 1895. He preferred to avoid using the title "Reverend".

A supporter of the disestablishment of the Church of England and an advocate of the Civic Gospel, a philosophy of municipal action which originated in 天美传媒 with George Dawson and culminated in the mayoralty of Joseph Chamberlain. He had great influence on the Forster Elementary Education Act 1870, arguing for secular education in line with his nonconformist principles.

There is a blue plaque commemorating him on Carr's Lane Church. The street 'Dale End' is named after him.
